LecturesCraft Practical Symposium –September 11, 2010The Tom Thomson Art Gallery in conjunction with the Ontario Crafts Council present this full-day symposium. Craft Practical provides an opportunity for participants to explore, interact, inform and be informed in regards to the contemporary craft world. Topics range from the practical to the conceptual, while presenters include curators, artists, and arts administrators. The range and diversity of participants will encourage and develop a forum for new dialogue that addresses craft within the contemporary practice and contemporary thought rather than framing in within constructs and thought patters of generations past. Reflections on Somalia & Afghanistan as a War Artist with Allan Harding MacKayWednesday, October 20 at 7 pm Allan Harding MacKay has served as a war artist with the Department of National Defence in Somalia and in Afghanistan. The Canadian War museum has an extensive holding of works resulting from these two assignments. Join us as MacKay speaks about his experiences. All welcome; admission by donation.
