Building a Legacy

In 1999, the Tom Thomson Art Gallery established an endowment fund with the Community Foundation Grey Bruce to support the long-term objectives and operations of the Gallery. The initial capital for the fund was provided through a bequest from the estate of Jennings David Young, a long-time supporter of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery. The Endowment Fund receives and administer private donations and bequests that will be held in perpetuity. The income from investments will be used to fund the operations of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery.

In 2008, an on-going campaign to increase the size of the Gallery’s endowment fund targeting those who are planning their estates and writing wills, will be launched. The ultimate goal (which may take several years to achieve) is to increase the fund to $2,000,000 in order to generate $100,000 towards the activities of the Gallery annually.  This will greatly enhance the financial stability of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery.

Estate Gifts

A gift through your estate to the Tom Thomson Art Gallery Endowment Fund helps ensure that future generations experience the power and wonder of the best in historical and contemporary art. An estate gift provides the donor with tax benefits while ensuring the long-term health of the Gallery.

The Tom Thomson Art Gallery makes every effort to appropriately acknowledge donors who make endowments or other estate gifts. We thank our donors by listing their names in our newsletter, on our website and in our Annual Report.  Plans are currently being developed to create a permanent Donor Recognition Wall at the Gallery and all previous donors will be commemorated.  Donors who have made planned gifts that we are aware of are invited to attend special events at the Gallery.  Naming opportunities are also available for those who wish to have a particularly enduring legacy with the Gallery.

Planned-gift donors are encouraged to have their plans reviewed by their professional advisors and by the Gallery. All information pertaining to donors and donations received by the Community Foundation Grey Bruce and by the Gallery is considered absolutely confidential.
