The works on view by the celebrated Canadian painter Alan Glicksman, combines an Abstract Expressionist sensibility with a highly graphic language – one that is almost hieroglyphic. There is an immediacy to his powerful imagery and bold use of colours that draws us in, inviting us to recognize universal archetypes about the human condition – and ourselves. Glickman’s spiritual roots become the subjects of his extended picture-making activity, as he probes the mysteries of being human, performing sacred rituals and celebrations. The work is blunt and personal, a product of the artist’s manic fertility.
